She attended Mills College in Northern California and received a master’s degree in Education and Nursing. She was Assistant Director of Nursing at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland. She married 24 March 1956, to Robert J. Lacy. They had two children: Terrence Joseph Lacy and Margaret Eileen Lucy. He had three children from a previous marriage.
