The Red River County Bank was founded in Clarksville, Texas, in 1873. Charter members of the bank were: M. L. Sims, R. R. Gaines, and Thomas H. Younger. The bank became the Red River National Bank. M. L. Sims was president of the bank from 1897 to 1903. He was also a director of the bank during those years. M. L. Sims was one of the most highly respected and prominent lawyers in Clarksville. His law partner was B. H. Epperson. The office of Epperson & Sims, attorneys at law, was the second door west of Russell’s store in Clarksville. Marshall L. Sims was mayor of Clarksville in 1903. M. L. Sims served as a captain and 1st lieutenant in the Red River Rangers in the Confederate Army. He served in the 23rd Cavalry, Company K as a captain. Estelle Sims, born 1867, Clarksville, Red River County, Texas, died 1951, buried Clarksville Cemetery, Clarksville, Red River County. She married first, 9 March 1887, Red River County, to David W. Cheatham, born 10 November 1854, died 21 July 1906, buried Clarksville Cemetery. She married second, 15 April 1915, Red River County, to John William O’Neill. |
