James and Clarisse Meadows moved from Coweta County, to Carroll County, Georgia. They lived at 202 South Street in Carrollton, Georgia, in 1870392 and 1880.393 About 1895, they moved from Carrollton, Georgia, to Lisbon, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, where three of their children had already moved.394 James and Clarisse Meadows lived with their son, Olney William Meadows, when the 1900 census was taken in Claiborne Parish.395
Clara Meadows Spence remembered her grandparents, James M. and Clarisse Meadows, with a great deal of love. Their home on South Street was next to the Kramer place. When they lived in Carrollton, Clara visited them a number of times. Both had an understanding of children and knew how to make them happy. Clara always loved to go to grandmother’s house and sleep on the high bed in the front room. There was a little three step stool she used to climb onto the high bed where she was almost swallowed in a big feather bed. There was also a little trundle bed that slid under the big bed during the day. Clara remembered the games her grandmother played with her and the walks with grandfather through the woods where they gathered nuts.396
